You’ve probably got an inkling by now that, for me, nothing “beets” a vegan burger 🍔 #ad
Now, I normally opt for a meat substitute over a veggie patty but I’m trying to broaden my horizons, ya know? 👀 So, I was excited when @byronhamburgers asked @wear.juti.eats and I to pop down and try out their vegan offering 🌱 Yet another place where vegans can eat something other than a salad – Yippee! 🥗 (Sorry salad)
Their vegan burger is called the ‘Beetnik’ and is packed with a beetroot falafel patty, baby kale, smashed avocado, tomato, pickled red onions, red peppers, ketchup & rainbow slaw 🍔 It’ll set you back £8 but if you’re anything like me, you’ll want a side of fries to go with it for £3 too 🍟 I think £11 for a burger and fries in London is pretty reasonable 👍🏼
Now, I’ll be honest, I was sceptical. I would never normally order a beetroot burger if I saw it on a menu. I’ve had some bad experiences! What normally puts me off of a veggie patty is that they’re often very dry. I’m happy to confirm that despite this burger being made using falafel, the beetroot gives it a good level of moisture.
However, this does come at a price because the burger is quite mushy and doesn’t hold together well. I suppose it depends how willing you are to get down and dirty 🍔 .
The jury is still out on whether I’m a fan of guac in a burg but there wasn’t too much in here so it didn’t overpower the rest of the ingredients 🥑
I quite liked the flavour combinations. Pickled onions always get a thumbs up from me but the sweet tomato also worked really well. I wouldn’t have been upset if the kale wasn’t included. I don’t think it added much, but I liked the bun and thought it really complimented the ingredients 👌🏼
I would’ve preferred the pickle on the side to be in the burger and I would’ve loved the option to add some vegan cheese but all in all, its alright!
Personally, if I’m going to eat a burger, I want it to be a little “dirtier” but we do have a wealth of junk style burgers now so this is a good, slightly healthier choice for those who fancy it. Also, handy to know that this can be made GF if you ask for a different bun 🍔
