Earlier this week, I got REEALLLL grubby. I mean, like, Christina Aguilera level of dirty 🙋🏼♀️ I took a trip down to @dirtyboneslondon’s vegan pop up in Shoreditch: @dirtyveganlondon 😍 🌱
All I can say is, well bloody done, Dirty Bones 👏🏼 This menu is excellent.
The standouts for me were the cauliflower ‘chicken’ and buckwheat waffles (pictured), the cashew and almond milk mac & cheese, the aubergine buffalo hot wings and the mac & cheese balls 🤤
The Mac and cheese balls were both sweet & spicy and definitely had a little kick to them. The breadcrumb coating is light and non greasy. It doesn’t quite have the same creaminess as regular cheese but I liked it none the less. On their own, they could be a tiiiiny bit bland but the sweet chilli sauce totally works with them to complete the dish 😍
The Aubergine Wings were as hot as I expected them to be! 🔥 The delicious dill sauce cools them slightly and also gives a lovely refreshing contrast. The aubergine itself is super soft and has a light, crispy batter surrounding it, although they do go a little soggy by the end of the dish! ❤️
The Cauliflower dish was just totally epic. The sweet maple syrup combined with the sugary waffle, contrasted against the lemon citrus tang, the insanely delicious batter and perfectly cooked cauliflower was incredible. Think this is one of the most innovative vegan dishes I’ve ever tried. Very clever 👏🏼 .
The mac & cheese dish had an earthy taste and was lightly crumbed. Whilst it obviously wasn’t super cheesy, it was very creamy. I liked the nutty flavour but it needed more of it 🧀
What I really like about this menu is that, whilst I am a big Seitan fan, they’ve created comfort food using veggies rather than mock meats and that takes a lot of creativity! Let’s hope that they make this menu permanent 🤞🏼
