Fine dining… but make it dirty 😛 {gifted}

There’s a funky new spot in town, guys and it is TOP BLOODY NOTCH 👌🏼 Meet @flavor.addicts – bringing a playful approach to Italian cuisine 🇮🇹

@tomaso.mannu (owner of @thefishout & @graziedio_its_vegan) has teamed up with two friends to create a dirty fine dining menu focused on Italian cuisine. Whilst the restaurant is not vegan, Tomato adds his vegan touch to the menu with some, quite frankly, stunning dishes 🌱

Here’s what we ate:


🌱⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Ascolalna Olives – deep fried green olives w/ @this.uk bacon & a 14 hour onion dip
💭What a clever dish! I don’t even like olives normally (despite years of trying to train myself) but these were absolute perfection. They’re so smoky and the onion sauce is incredible – sweet and creamy. I could eat fifty of these and not get sick of them!

🌱⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Faux Grass w/ morello cherry gel, smoked grape, BBQ oyster mushroom spring rolls & cornichons
💭This is so unusual! I’ve had vegan fois gras before but I think this is the strongest of all the ones I’ve tried. The faux grass itself is similar in both taste and texture to the real deal (I only had it a handful of times before I went vegan but from what I remember, it’s pretty close). It tastes like a mushroom pate with some strong hits of rosemary. The spring rolls are beautiful too – so light and flaky that they melt in your mouth. The mushroom filling is absolutely delicious too! You can’t quite see in the picture but the cherry gel and cornichons this come with are lovely too and add a nice sharp element to the dish, though I would’ve been just as happy with the spring rolls and faux grass to be honest.

🌱⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Bao w/ hemp & basil pesto, tomato sauce, vegan parmesan & lime
💭I just can’t adequately explain how much I loved these. They’re little soft, fluffy cushions absolutely bursting at the seams with flavour. Essentially, it’s a pizza bao bun. The sun-dried tomato and sharp parmesan are beautiful. The parmesan is very realistic! There’s a lovely hit of citrus from the lime and the whole dish is just gooey, cheesy, fluffy heaven.

🌱Leek Cannellone with fennel cream and fennel salad, dill oil, parmesan, crispy shallots and @thefishout caviar
💭Such a clever dish! The leek was just stunning and cooked to perfection. The crispy shallots are a really nice touch. The sauce tasted almost cheesy and had a creamy texture similar to cheese too. The vegan caviar adds a really nice texture and despite not being the biggest fan of fennel, I thought it worked really well here and added a nice contrast to the leek. Absolutely delicious!

🌱Aubergine with sweet potato, miso, smoked tahini, pickled chilli, parsley and matcha crackers
💭The aubergine was phenomenal. It just melted in my mouth! The combination of flavours worked so well and I especially loved the matcha crackers. The tahini sauce is dreamy. An excellent dish, enough to convert anyone who isn’t the biggest aubergine fan.

🌱Tofu nawabi curry and wholewheat naan bread
💭The one thing I was taught about fine dining is that you should always be left wanting more and oh boy, did I want more of this. I was left scraping my plate at the end (no shame). It really reminded me of a korma because the main focus is a thick, creamy sauce with a lovely coconut flavour. The tofu is tandoori marinated first to also add another flavour. The naan bread is stunning and reminded me of peshwari as it also has a coconut flavour.

🌱⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Carbonara w/ @this.uk bacon
💭I love a creamy pasta and carbonara used to be my favourite, although I didn’t get to try many traditional Italian carbonaras before I went vegan, which is what I imagine this is like. It’s salty, creamy and nutty.  I absolutely love the use of THIS bacon to add a smoky crunch very similar to pancetta.

🌱⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Deep fried ice cream bomb (they can make it vegan on request)
💭This was so delicious. It’s basically a doughnut filled with ice cream which sounds like it might be sickly but it wasn’t! The sauce did get a little lost, I thought, but I still enjoyed it.

🌱⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Sedas w/ thyme maple syrup (traditional Sardinian dish)
💭This was my first time trying this Sardinian dish and while it grew on me the more I ate, I’m not convinced it’s for me. It’s very unusual, a mixture of savoury and sweet with a strong cinnamon favour. Chris really enjoyed it though!

🌱⁣⁣⁣⁣Amarena w/ cherry bon bon & fermented grape juice (they can make this vegan on request)
💭Absolutely delicious! Such an amazing use of punchy flavours. The cherry syrup is incredibly sweet and the dark chocolate is quite bitter and the two blend so well to create a perfect balance. Lovely!
