Maybe next year’s Christmas No.1 will be: “We built this city on vegan sausage rolls”? 🎶
Unless you’re still hibernating after NYE, you might have heard a little rumour that UK bakery chain @greggs_official has released a vegan sausage roll with a crispy puff pastry, Quorn and their special seasoning 🌱 Well, the rumours are true.
Now, this may not seem like a big deal. After all, we’ve had vegan sausage roll options in various supermarkets and restaurants for a while now. But it is. It is a big deal. This is a huge sign that veganism has gone mainstream, it shows people that they don’t have to give anything up when they go vegan, it puts vegan products in front of people who would never normally think twice about eating them (or even know they existed), it gives us the chance to show big companies how much demand there is for vegan food and lastly, at £1 in 1,195 stores around the country, it means that lots of people can now access vegan food easily and affordably 👏🏼
Now for the important bit, I’ve tasted them and can confirm that they taste just like a non-vegan @greggs_official sausage roll (from what I remember of them three years ago!). I also got my friend who isn’t vegan, to try one and she said the same thing. The pastry is flaky, the sausage is spiced in the same way and it has the same texture. It could use a tiny bit more sausage as the pastry ratio is a little out, but all in all, this is exactly what I was hoping for from Greggs and I’ll definitely be buying more! 🌱 Served hot with ketchup – it takes me right back to my days in Straya! Thank you to Greggs for creating an option for us and recognising veganism as a growing lifestyle 🌱
So, whether you’re vegan, curious about vegan food or just want to annoy Piers Morgan, get ya self down to Greggs to try one! The list of branches stocking them is on the T&Cs section of their website ♥️
