Starting a petition to get Plant Hub remamed as Plant Hub-ba hubba because it is SO DAMN FINE šĀ {ad}
This new vegan spot is both a restaurant and a cooking school. Double whammy! Their food is creative, colourful and good for ya.
Thereās a strong focus on local food. When I spoke to the chef (from Italy), he said that he wanted to show people that we can make magic using British ingredients, and that really stuck with me, partly because it was so poetic but mostly because heās absolutely right and the proof was (quite literally) in the pudding.
Ooh, and they also pair the dishes with wild flowers to give it some added zing! Hereās what we ate and thought:
š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£G-oatz cheese, ferments & foccacia
āļøā£This is a really clever dish. I wasnāt expecting to like the focaccia but it was lovely and not at all dry. Ā The sesame seeds were a nice touch. The oat cheese grew on me the longer I ate it ā At first it really reminded me of porridge (for obvious reasons) but after a while, it actually started to remind me of laughing cow cheese a little, if anyone remembers that! The girole mushrooms were very unusual ā tasted quite juicy and tangy, like apricots. I liked the spicy / sour sauerkraut Ā and the fruity pickled apple. The only reason I wouldnāt order this again is that I felt like for Ā£8, it wasnāt quite substantial enough

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Oyster mushrooms, Sichuan squash purĆ©e, bitter cress, umeboshi
āļøā£On first taste, the mushrooms are quite bitter but it grew on me. The puree was absolutely beautiful ā sweet and a little fruity. The mushrooms were a bit crispy on the outside and really reminded me of chicken. When I spoke to the chef at the end, he said that this was exactly what he was going for, so mission accomplished!

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Fiery bulgogi maitake āsteakā, buckwheat, courgette & aubergine
āļøā£This dish took me totally by surprise. Itās the definition of ābursting with flavourā. Itās spicy, itās salty, itās punchy, itās like nothing Iāve ever tasted before. I love the ginger flavours throughout. I did enjoy it but it took me a while to get used to. This was Chrisā favourite dish!

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Cauliflower mushroom tempura, sesame dressing
āļøā£This has a nice, crisp coating and isnāt greasy at all. Iāve never had a cauliflower mushroom before but the flavour s lovely. Itās quite salty and I would say that the texture reminded me of fish but a bit spongier. The sesame dressing was delicious too!

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Gnocchi, basil, almonds
āļøā£An absolute classic ā This was delightful. The gnocchi is cooked perfectly ā itās not gloopy or sticky. The rose petal wasnāt super fragrant but it did add a touch of sweetness. The basil pesto is great!

Ā
š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Smoked gnocchi, Sicilian sauce
āļøā£The sauce in this was a little more texturised than your normal creamy gnocchi sauce. It was a little gritty but had a lovely smoked flavour to it. The leaf was a little bitter for my tastes.

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£āLobsterā risotto w/ summer black truffle
āļøā£This was my favourite dish, and after speaking to the chef, I was told that itās his too! I had no idea what a lobster mushroom was but thatās what they use in this dish and theyāre very clever. Theyāre quite meaty in texture and this did really remind me of a seafood risotto. The truffle is a nice addition, I recommend it ā Itās not overpowering. Thereās a little saltiness in the dish but just the right amount, I thought.

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Rice shell, cherry tomato salad, wild flowers
āļøā£The flowers had a very strong aniseed flavour, which I love but understand it isnāt for everyone. The tomatoes were incredibly fresh, sweet and juicy. Overall, I thought all of the flavours complimented each other well and I loved the crispy rice shell.

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Glazed banana, parsley biscuit
āļøā£This was such a stunning dish, I loved every element of it, apart from the pineapple flowers which were too bitter for me. I donāt love bitter flavours! The balsamic worked well as a nice contrast and the glaze was to die for.

š±ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£Millionaire
āļøā£This isnāt my kind of dish, purely because I donāt enjoy biscuit in a dessert but Chris absolutely loved it. The berries are very sharp, the chocolate is really nice and the taste flickers between smooth and sharp. One for the choc biscuit lovers out there!
