I guess you could say that the @queenpicnic team have got their sandwiches down to a B-L-“T” 🥪 {complimentary}
It’s no secret that the vegan sandwich game needs a liiitle improvement 🙃 Cucumber, hummus, I bloody love you but as a filling, you’re just not that, well… filling 🤷🏼♀️
Cue @queenpicnic – a small independent brand stocked in @the_grocery_shop, Hoxton. Judging by the quality of these bready delights, hopefully more places soon 🤞🏼
Here’s what I thought:
🌱Vegan BLT
💰£3.50
✏️Loved this – it smelt just like a BLT. Whilst the bacon isn’t identical, it’s nice in its own right. It adds a meaty, chewy texture & salty flavour without feeling too thick or dominating. The juicy, sweet tomato works well, proportions are spot on. Love the crunch from the lettuce, mayo adds moisture. Beaut!

🌱Chicken style seitan with vegan mayo & spring onions
💰£3.50
✏️Chicken mayo used to be my fave and this is a good adaptation. The flavour hits you first – the “chicken” is smoky & BBQ like. It has bite just like I remember a chicken sandwich having. It’s realistic and has nice bite to it but was a little chewy / rubbery. It’d be nice if it were a bit softer. The mayo adds moisture, spring onions add a nice but subtle, almost coleslaw-like flavour. This has BIG potential and I enjoyed it, I just think the “chicken” needs a little work
❓Order again? Yes, w/ changes
🌱Smokey salmon style carrot w/ vegan cream cheese, dill & red onion
💰£3.50
✏️ First of all, love that they’re chilled. The cream cheese is creamy & has a nice flavour. The inside is well stuffed. Love the hint of dill, the cream cheese is thick & adds nice texture, carrot tastes a bit like fish but not exactly the same – again, just nice in its own right. The touch of red onion is perfect. This is smokey, sweet & satisfying
