Sugarcane – Battersea

“Jamaican” me hungry 🌴🤤 {ad – press sample}

Can you *believe* we still don’t have many fully vegan sit-down Caribbean spots in this city? So of course @sugarcanelondon’s new vegan branch is a very welcome addition to the scene 👏🏼🌴

UPDATE: The fully vegan branch has now closed but they still serve vegan options at their other branch just down the road so I’m keeping this review up for that reason.

I’ve always found Caribbean cuisine to be an explosion of flavour so I was excited to pop down and check out Tyrell’s food 👀 Here’s what I nibbled on:

🍄 Jerk mushrooms w/ a homemade marinade
💰 £6

🌱 Callaloo patty packed w/ spices & turmeric
💰 £3.50
🏆 Fave dish

🌱 Ackee & blossom fruit – a vegan version of the Caribbean’s national dish made with sautéed onions and sweet peppers
💰 £9
🏆 Fave dish

🥘 Rastaman red pea stew
💰 £9

🌯 Di Ital vegan wraps (St Lucian roti) with red peas, spinach, carrots, pumpkin, pineapple & vegan mayo
💰 £8

🍚 Jerk rice
💰 £4

🌽 Sweetcorn fritters – Jamaican fritters w/ organic corn and a hint of scotch bonnet served w/ thyme mayo
💰 £5.50

🌱 Jamaican dumplings made w/ almond milk and vanilla
💰 £4.50

🤷🏼‍♀️ Visit again? Yes. The team are so lovely and so humble. The food is bursting with authentic Caribbean flavour and clearly cooked with love and passion. My feedback was that I would’ve liked a different type of mushroom and a bit more spice in the jerk but otherwise I really enjoyed the food. It’s also interesting to note that they employ care leavers – train them and pay for their chef qualifications. They are also focused on organic ingredients and try to stay away from meat subs, harnessing the power of plants
