Mallow – Borough Market

On the hunt for the best vegan food and restaurants in London

Mallow

This week, Mallow in Borough Market invited me to try their new brunch item: Crème brûlée French toast. Who am I to turn down an offer like that?

If you haven’t heard of Mallow before – they’re part of the Mildred’s franchise. However, because Borough Market only allows independent restaurants into the area, they created a new restaurant with a slightly different menu to the Mildred’s branches.

I took my friend Nicole with me who was visiting from Scotland and had never been to Mallow before. I was determined to show her some of the best vegan food and restaurants in London and I knew Mallow would be a great venue for that.

Nicole and I met on the Contiki tour I hosted in August so it was really nice to reconnect and continue the friendship outside of the tour. If you want to find out more about the tour including the countries we visited and the activities we embarked on, check out my post about it here.

Review

The French toast was dreamy. It was thick but not dense, just really soft and fluffy. There was a beautiful layer of blackberry compote and a pot of vanilla cream to pour on top. However, the main event was the stunning crisp creme brulee layer of caramelised sugar on top. Absolutely heavenly.

You could certainly order this dish on its own but we ordered it as a sharing dessert after we’d tucked into our savoury options. I had the truffle chicken burger with aioli, buffalo glaze, dill pickles, slaw and fries. Nicole had the Thali platter with scrambled tofu, coconut cashew basmati, gujurati dahl, hari mirch cauliflower, pineapple achar and flatbread.
