Kolamba – Carnaby / Soho

Life is so “dahl” without Sri Lankan food 🥘

Right in the hustle and bustle of Carnaby Street, you’ll find Sri Lankan restaurant @kolamba.ldn with sleek yet earthy decor and a menu packed with the boldly flavoured traditional dishes the Sri Lankan owners grew up eating 🥰

Here’s what I ate & thought (photos are in corresponding order):

🥘 Dhal (Parripu)
A hearty staple made with red split lentils, coconut milk, turmeric and finished with tempered spices
💰 £7.20
🏆 Fave dish

🥘 Young Jackfruit (Polos) Curry – A dark, boldly flavoured curry of tender jackfruit, cinnamon & fried onion
💰 £8.20
🏆 Fave dish

🍍 Kumar’s Pineapple and Aubergine with baby shallots and cardamom
💰 £8.90

🥘 Cashew Fry with caramelised onions, crispy curry leaves and rich spices
💰 £8.90

🥥 Beans with Coconut – green beans with onions and freshly grated coconut
💰 £7.20

🌱 Pol Roti – rustic coconut flatbread flavoured with
diced onion and green chilli
💰 £4.20

🍚 Aromatic Basmati Rice with cardamom, curry leaves and crispy onions
💰 £3.50

💭Flavour, flavour, flavour. There’s SO much of it in these dishes and some with combos I’d never tried. No fake meats, just a natural focus on veg and spices. We ordered every vegan dish as they were quite reasonably priced and meant we could share and taste them all. The dahl and jackfruit did it for me the most with the pineapple following a close third. I wasn’t as enamoured by the cashew and beans with coconut – flavours just weren’t quite to my taste and felt more like side dishes than mains but I’d order all of the others again

🤷🏼‍♀️ Visit again? Yes, cute date night spot for those dining with non-vegans
