Toba – Piccadilly Circus

BRAND NEW INDONESIAN SPOT 🇮🇩 {press meal}

I really, really liked this brand new Indonesian restaurant – Toba London. It opened last week and it’s a real gem. Owner, Pino, has run a street food stall in Camden for years (@pinoswarung) and this is his first bricks and mortar venue near Piccadilly Circus.

Toba London’s menu is inspired by Pino’s late mother’s recipes and creates traditional favourites with a modern twist 👌🏼

We tried:
🌱 Tempe Mendoan, Bakwan Jagung & Bakwan Sayur – a trio of deep fried fritters – fermented soya bean, sweet corn & mixed veg 💰 £7
🥔 Perkedel Kenyans – Indonesian fried potato patties 💰 £7
🥬 Gulai Daun Singkong Pete – minced kale leaf braised in traditional thick coconut milk with tofu, tempe & sator beans 💰£12.50
🌱 Tumis Kangkung – morning glory with homemade sauce, red chilli, tomatoes & tofu 💰 £12.50
🍆 Terong Balado – Grilled aubergine cooked in spicy chilli sauce 💰£11
🔥 Aneka Sambal – homemade chilli paste. We tried the torch ginger and Balinese style 💰 £8

💭 The food was just excellent – loaded with flavour and I personally loved the spice levels. The vegan menu isn’t huge but the dishes they do offer are executed really well. They’re also hoping to introduce more dishes in the next couple of months!
🏆 The minced kale leaf dish and the grilled aubergine dish were my favourites. Stunning! I have been dreaming of them ever since. The morning glory is the only dish I wouldn’t personally order again
