I really don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that I could eat dumplings every day for the rest of my life 🥟 I ate sixteen a few nights ago and it was everything I’d ever dreamed of and more 😍
Recently, I had the pleasure of popping down to @ugly.dumpling.uk’s adorable little spot off of Carnaby Street and tasting their vegan options 🌱 .
I started with the spinach dumplings which were well made but for me, needed more flavour 🥟 The pink noodle salad was delicious 😋 Fresh, light & tasty, it’s a perfect side dish. I did suggest to the team that a bit of ginger could take it to the next level. God, I love ginger 😍
Next up, I tucked into the new kids on the block – the jackfruit gyoza topped with tomato salsa and a generous portion of jalapeños, which were super tasty 🔥 🥟 Sweet, spicy, bursting with flavour and giving off some serious Mexican vibes, this was unique, creative and not like any dumpling I’ve ever had 🌶 When teamed with the pineapple salsa (which I also enjoyed), it gave it a great contrast of flavours! 🍍
We also tried a portion of the fried aubergine which was light, non-greasy and had a lovely texture 😋 The chunks are quite big which can make them difficult to eat but they have to be to avoid burning the aubergine when cooking 🍆 (any excuse to use that emoji tbh). This dish isn’t vegan on the menu so the vegan version comes without honey and I can definitely see where this sweetness would’ve benefited the dish, so I suggested a maple syrup or sweet chilli replacement 🤤❤️
To finish, we tried the strawberry dumplings which were tasty and so unique! 🍓 The non vegan version comes with cream and they did miss that so I suggested a vegan ice cream or whipped cream to really complete the dish 🥟🍓
