The “Drink At The Pub?” Venue

The Spread Eagle
It doesn’t get more British than a date at the pub, does it? Well, what better place to go than London’s first ever fully vegan pub! If you’d rather flirt over a few pints in the pub than work your way through an eight course tasting menu, The Spread Eagle is the spot for you! This is London’s first 100% vegan pub so everything from the beers to the furniture is animal free, apart from dogs who are, of course welcome. They have mocktails for those of you who prefer a more sober evening and there’s a cute little courtyard for those who want a little more privacy. There’s always a good buzz here and the Prince shrine will give you something to chat about if the conversation gets dry at any point.

Filthy Buns
If you’re not afraid to get a little bit dirty on a date (cheeky), then this spot in Dalston should be at the top of your list. Serving up some of the most epic burgers in the city in what I like to call “an old man’s pub”, this is a super chilled venue where the drinks are strong and the burgers stacked high. If you’re feeling extra fun, you could always head over for their Drag Bingo night. Please note: this is a kitchen residency within The Three Compasses pub if you’re trying to find it on Citymapper!

The Birds
If you’re looking to just “wing” a date (God, that’s awful, sorry), this is another great venue with casual vibes, lashes of beer and a menu packed with vegan comfort food, perfect to soak up the alcohol. From loaded fries to buffalo wings, they’ve got it all. They also have a sister pub in Holloway called The Owl & Hitchiker (review here) who offer a very similar menu.

The “Buzzy Atmosphere” Venues

Club Mexicana
If it’s atmosphere you want, look no further than Kingly Court in Soho. They’ve got a few really good spots there but for me, Club Mex is my fave. It’s on the ground floor and has a small indoor section as well as an outdoor part so that you’re right in the mix with diners from all of the other venues. Not to mention, it’s bright pink. The food is unreal and I personally can’t visit without ordering a frozen margarita.

Mildred’s Soho
There are a few Mildred’s branches dotted around the city but I think the original Soho branch is the most suitable for a date. Dim lighting, a good selection of wines and of course, a top notch menu which boasts something for everyone. It’s nice and buzzy although perhaps a little loud at times so I recommend this more for people who have been together for a while. No one wants to spend their first date saying “pardon” the whole time.

Amazing Grace
This funky bar, live music venue and food destination is my new go-to in London Bridge. Set inside an old church, the food is supplied by Mr Bao with an array of vegan options and I’m told that the vibes on a Friday or Saturday night are pretty hard to beat.

Sushi, fries and bao – what’s not to love? This chic small plates venue is styled like an Izakaya, inspired by Tokyo and has both a buzzy atmopshere and romantic vibe to it, It’s also worth noting that they offer a bottomless brunch at the weekend.

THE “Dinner and Drinks” Venue

Tendril Kitchen
I originally had this spot in the ‘Dinner By Candlelight’ category when it was located in Soho. They now live just around the corner near Bond Street but I wanted to keep them on the list so they’ve been relocated to the drinks category! This self-proclaimed (mostly) vegan kitchen is an absolute winner. The food is delicious and the team are so friendly and passionate that they make you feel right at home, I recommend getting the tasting menu so you can try a bit of everything – it’s also quite reasonably priced.

Peachy Goat
Pasta, burgers and deep fried cheese -The trio we all need in our life to be honest. This is a cute, laid back venue with really cracking food. They offer a cocktail, beer and wine menu and they’ve got a little garden space for those rare London nights where it’s warm enough to dine outside. They also serve some dreamy biscoff doughnuts for dessert which are the perfect sharer to finish off your evening.

Previously an establishment which didn’t serve alcohol, Om-Nom now has a bar with a variety of wines, cocktails and spirits. They’ve recently decided to collaborate with Namaste Village so they have a huge menu packed with Indian food. They’ve got a whole section of the restaurant which is covered by glass so you can look up at the stars while you tuck into your “butter chicken”.

Unity Diner
Unity is one of the most popular spots to tuck into vegan comfort food but did you know that they also have their own vegan-themed cocktail bar serving up all of the classics from ‘Piers Morgan’s Tears’ (lol) to ‘Forks Over Knives’. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you might fancy feeding each other one of the highly regarded desserts such as the biscoff cheesecake or ice cream nachos (yes, you read that right). It’s also located right near Spitalfields where there are tonnes of bars and late night spots to venture to if you’re not in a food coma when you leave.

Plant Hub
I visited Plant Hub a few years ago and was really impressed but their menu has changes slightly since I visited. Since then, they’ve moved more towards an Italian menu, offering pizza and pasta as well as some beautiful looking desserts. They also have a selection of natural wines if you fancy a little tipple. The most important thing to note about Plant Hub, though is that it’s completely gluten free and organic and serves local and seasonal ingredients. At the back of the restaurant, they also have a space where they research plant based food. The decor is cute, cosy and filled with plants (of course)

Not only does this little Jamaican spot in Camden have quite a big vegan menu full of vegan versions of classic Jamaican dishes, it’s also a rum and reggae bar so the drinks are flowing and the vibes are immaculate. This would be a great spot for a first date – good food, music and a great variety of drinks in a colourful, buzzy environment. For those on a budget, they also offer a Happy Hour from 5-7 daily.

Naifs
This little hidden gem is the perfect date night spot. With candles on every table paired with dim lighting, it feels homely and cosy. as soon as you step inside. This is a family-run business which is all about using local, organic ingredients to showcase the beauty and versatility of vegetables. The team are warm and passionate and the food is excellent. They offer a set menu which allows you to have a taste of everything which I highly reccommend.

Black Pig with White Pearls
This little hidden gem is one of my favourite spots in the city. It’s quite small and unassuming but it’s one of the only places in London that serves a vegan Spanish Tapas menu and they do it all in a candle-lit, romantic little setting. Think rustic furniture, quirky decor, traditional Spanish music playing on the speakers and an endless supply of tapas from their vegan menu. Now, if that’s not romantic, I don’t know what is. It just feels really cosy – the kind of place I could spend (and have spent) the whole evening dining and drinking sangria. Perfect for a relaxed but intimate date night.

La Fauxmagerie
Ready to get cheesey by candelight in more ways than one? This is your spot. If you’ve always been a bit wary about vegan cheese, forget everything you’ve tasted and check out this venue because this is where you’ll find the best of the best products in the vegan cheese world. On the top floor is a shop boasting cheeses, wines and various vegan snacks and downstairs, there’s a beautiful, tiny, dimly-lit (and super romantic) dining room. They offer a tasting menu where you can choose from several wine and cheese pairings (or just cheese if you’re not a big drinker). I personally don’t think it should be legal for people to visit and not order the camembert but no official law has been put in place regarding this yet.

Light and colourful during the day and dimly-lit and romantic by night, this venue is tucked away behind an unassuming shop front which looks like the entrance to a takeaway. However, venture further in and you’ll be drawn in by the charms of this small, atmospheric restaurant. They serve vegan versions of Indian dishes and they do it really well. I’ve heard many a meat-eater gush about the food here!

Pachamama
The Shoreditch branch is one of the prettiest restaurants I’ve eaten in – such a perfect spot for a date. Twinkling fairy lights and rustic decor make this Peruvian inspired bar and restaurant stand out from the crowd. I’ve only been for brunch (and loved the food) but I really want to go back for the vegan tasting menu boasting dishes such as mushroom mapo tofu and sweet potato ceviche.

Pastan first graced the streets of Covent Garden as a pop-up only a few months ago and due to its popularity, they’ve now opened a restaurant near the Barbican. I’ve only been to the pop-up but the restaurant looks homely, cosy and relaxed. So, get ready to channel your inner Lady and the Tramp and eat all of the pasta your heart could desire.

The service was excellent and the kinoko maki roll is one of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever had,

The “Food Is My Love Language” Venues

If you’re looking for the kind of venue that’s not necessarily candle-lit, boasting fancy decor or playing Barry White in the background but ALL about delicious food you can lose yourself in, you’ve come to the right section. There’s no pretence and no dress code for these venues but I recommend stretchy trousers.

Tofu Vegan
It will come as no surprise to anyone who follows my Instagram that this is easily one of my favourite spots in London. I was honoured to be the first to review it and it’s held a firm place in my heart ever since. The food is incredible – all vegan versions of classic Chinese dishes, the team are wonderful and the venue itself has a good atmosphere because it’s always busy these days! The portions are a little small for the price but they’re absolutely delicious. This is often where I go with my boyfriend for a casual mid-week date night.

Mali Vegan
Very new to the scene, this is London’s very first (and only) sit-down, vegan Thai restaurant. You’ll find it tucked away in a cute side alley, with a small, outdoor lamp-lit area at the front followed by a huge indoor space covered in beautiful, traditional Thai décor. The food speaks for itself – there is so much flavour in every bite. The staff are lovely too! Can’t recommend this spot enough.

Comptoir V
I remember the first time I visited this spot, I was blown away and while it’s better known now, I still don’t think it receives the credit it deserves. The food is Middle-Eastern inspired and just bursting with flavour injected from an array of spices. The Morrocan-style lamps within the venue give it a cosy, homely feel but they also have a cute little patio at the front if you’re keen to dine al fresco.

Possibly the most adorably named restaurants in London, these sister restaurants serve up practically the same menu but are located in different areas. Nom Nom’s atmosphere is probably slightly better as it’s a bigger venue and can host more people. They offer a huge menu and for every non-vegan dish, they have a vegan version which I think is so sweet and such a nice way to ensure that vegans don’t feel like they’re missing out.🍴 Cuisine: Vietnamese

If you remember Dou-Dou, the Chinese buffet that closed down, you’ll be pleased to know that they reopened with new branding, a new location & a new a la carte menu 😍 @veganplanetcamden is a fully vegan Chinese spot with a huge menu. If you love Tofu Vegan (and you KNOW I do), you’re going to love it here too. The menu is fairly similar, just as extensive and the quality is just as good. So, now we have another amazing vegan Chinese spot! 🇨🇳 It’s worth noting though that they don’t serve alcohol on the premises.

From Tredwell’s to All’s Well, I’ve been a big fan of Chantelle Nicholson’s food for a while and zero-waste restaurant Apricity is everything I hoped it would be (and maybe even a little bit more). Nestled away on an expensive-looking road, paces away from hectic Bond Street, the shabby-chic restaurant is a haven of laid-back serenity. The staff were friendly, the food is beautiful – creative and delicious and the sustainability aspect is mega impressive – the shabby chic style is made up of recycled materials including the chairs which are crafted out of coke bottles.

Plates
If you’ve never heard of Plates before, you’re in for a treat. The team have just found a new home at swanky, modern, concrete-designed bar, very cooly named ‘Untitled Bar. They’re all about sustainability and food innovation. Chef @kirk_haworth is insanely talented and a true leader in plant-based cooking. After being diagnosed with Lyme’s, he adopted a plant-based diet to reduce symptoms. He’s worked in Michelin starred restaurants around the world and you may recognise him from Great British Menu. The food is sensational – the attention to detail is incredible and it’s clear how passionate the team are about injecting creativity into their food with unreal texture & flavour combos. The only dish I wasn’t keen on was the fragrant carrots – just wasn’t my thing – a bit too veg heavy and too sour in parts. This venue could cater to anything from a casual night in the garden eating bar snacks and sipping cocktails to a slightly pricier special occasion.

Angelina
This is a venue that feels fancy but doesn’t require you to take out a loan. It’s definitely one of the better vegan tasting menus I’ve had and the wine pairing was pretty special too. Back when I visited, they were hosting ‘Vegan Mondays’. I’m not sure they’re doing that anymore but with 72 hours notice, they’re about to create a vegan menu for you so just make sure you book in advance. Really nice venue and probably one of the only places in the city where you can tuck into an Italian-Japanese fusion menu.

Holy Carrot
I visited these guys back when they were nameless and located in the stunning Mercato Mayfair but now they’ve spread their wings and they have they very own venue. I’ve not been to the new spot myself but have seen pictures and it’s beautiful and definitely appropriate. The food is just delightful – with so many ingredients and love put into each dish – it really feels like fine dining but without the hefty price tag.

The Gate
The Gate is one of the OGs in meat-free dining in London. With four different venues around the capital, this restaurant, founded in 1989, is one of the most well known veggie spots in London. They’ve kept up with the times by modernising their menu as the veggie and vegan scene has developed. It’s sleek and more formal than other vegetarian restaurants around the city, but you’ll still feel relaxed and comfortable dining here. It’s a sophisticated spot for a sip of wine over a romantic, sit-down vegan meal.

Renowned vegan chef Alexis Gauthier opened up his second venue earlier this year (the other being Gauthier which also features in this list). Situated in the middle of Mayfair and inside Fenwick Department store, you’d expect the prices to be extortionate but actually they’re quite reasonable. Alexis serves up a variety of cuisines but the standout is his vegan sushi! I’d recommend perching at the sushi bar or in one of the booths and filling yourself to the brim with maki and nigiri,🍴 Cuisine: Varied

The “Sharing is Caring” Venues

Morito
Nothing says ‘caring’, like sharing, and there aren’t many menus which cater to this better than Morito which is why it’s one of my regular haunts. With cool tones, stone walls and super trendy staff, this place is everything you’d expect from a Hackney restaurant. The menu draws influences from Southern Spain, North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean and is delivered in small plate portions, so you can try a bit of everything. For me, the atmosphere is unbeatable and this would be my absolute favourite place for a date if they had juuuust a couple more vegan options. When I visited initially, they had a whole vegan menu which was AMAZING but since I’ve been back, it is more limited. However, they do offer a few tasty dishes (mainly veggie options with the non-vegan ingredients removed) and honestly if you go for them and a few cocktails alone, you’ll have a great night. But here’s hoping the vegan menu expands soon!

One of my favourite restaurants in all of London! The food here is just fantastic and the venue is super romantic. Dimly lit, right in the hustle and bustle of the city yet somehow a bit detached from it, I love it here. The focus is on flavoursome food which steers veganism away from nostalgia and into a more culturally curious place and boy, do they do it well. Meat eaters are sure to love it here too… unless they hate flavour.

Bubala
Another cracker of a venue. Lovely, cosy, buzzy vibes and really great food. Small plates, natural ingredients and some really punchy, bold flavours help to make this place stand out from the crowd. When I visited, we sat at the bar and discussed the food and drinks with the barman which was fun and made for a unique experience but if you fancy a more private experience, they have tables scattered throughout the relatively small venue.

Pasta to share – what’s not to love? Okay so this isn’t technically a small plates venue but the portions aren’t huge so whenever I go, I share 3 plates between two. I love the food here. Simple flavours executed well and just expertly crafted fresh pasta. The only downside is that the pasta plates are quite expensive for their size. I normally go for three to share between two but it does make it slightly pricier. I also love that it’s smack bang in the middle of Carnaby because it’s the perfect place for people-watching while you romantically slurp on either end of a pasta noodle.

The Swing
I only discovered this spot recently and I’m so glad I did. It’s a veggie restaurant but it might as well be vegan with the amount of options on the menu! The décor is super pretty and while I visited during the day, I can imagine how cute it would be at night. You won’t find any meat-subs here – it’s all about harnessing the power of plants.

Fatt Pundit
This is still some of my favourite food I’ve eaten in London and I’m surprised I don’t see more people talking about it! They serve up a range of vegan Indo-Chinese dishes from sticky sesame vegetables to Bombay chilli mock chicken and also some absolutely delicious cocktails. It’s right in the heart of central too so could easily be followed by a nice bar or two (or three).

Facing Heaven
Almost certainly one of the smallest restaurants in London, this spot definitely makes for an intimate venue. is the new venture from the team behind Chinese restaurant Mao Chow which used to reside just around the corner. It would be perfect for a casual date for two food lovers who aren’t shy of a bit of spice. The food here is unique and ventures into the side of Chinese cooking which isn’t always super easy to find in London. Unlike MC which focused solely on Sichuan dishes, this menu expands to include Cantonese, Yunnan & Shaanxi dishes as well as flavours from Puerto-Rican, Portuguese and American to reflect owner Julian’s upbringing. Oh and they’ve got a disco loo. Need I say more?

Site x Supernature
One of the newer additions to the vegan scene, Site x Supernature is definitely leading the field in terms of sustainable restaurants. Their genuine passion for sustainability is so great to see. They forage, they grow their own food, they focus on hyperseasonal dishes – they’re just absolutely smashing it. They also know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to food – the menu is both creative and flavoursome and what’s even better is that they’ve just started running small plates evenings from Thursdays onwards which would be perfect for a cute little date. They have a lovely al fresco garden (for when it gets a bit warmer). They also do a bottomless brunch if you’re planning to make the date last the whole day.

One of my favourite restaurants in London, I wish we had a hundred of these all over the country. They serve up mind-blowingly good food in a chic, trendy, relaxed setting. Looking to get a little bit spicy? Is your date all about finding the food with the boldest flavours? Then this is the category for you. London is home to some amazing Indian restaurants and so I felt the date-night appropriate ones deserved their own category. I’ve visited all of these venues and loved every single one of them. All of them boast beautiful, powerful flavours and at least one dish that is sure to leave your mouth tingling (well, if your spice tolerance is as average as mine, that is). So, if you’re feeling brave, give one of these a go!

Kutir
The place to be if you’re after elegant, fancy dining that isn’t style over substance. It’s no surprise that the head chef is Michelin starred, the way he refines traditional Indian food and injects flavour into elegant, beautiful dishes is outstanding.

Dishoom
One of London’s best-known restaurants for a reason. They have several branches across the city and a decent vegan brunch and lunch / dinner menu. It’s always expanding too. The “Treat Yo Self” Venues

These venues all boast a lovely atmosphere, top notch grub and quality service. So, of course they don’t come cheap. Definitely restaurants to consider for a date night where you fancy something a bit more special.

Yauatcha
Turns out dim lighting and dim sum make for a winning combination! For me, dim sum is the perfect date night cuisine – sharable and delicious, and Yauatcha does it really well. I’ve been to both the Soho and City venues but the City branch probably seals the win because it offers a beautiful al fresco balcony area where you can grab a cocktail. It also felt slightly less pretentious when I visited. If you’re in Soho and looking for ultimate romance, you’ll want to head to the lower ground floor to be surrounded by swanky decor and twinkling lights. I absolutely love the food here and they’ve got a really good range of vegan options but you’ll want to pick carefully because they don’t come cheap.

This vegan menu isn’t going to be the most extensive one you’ve ever come across but the options they do offer are done quite well. The “Views Over London” Venues

Bokan
Set over three levels on the 37th floor of the Novotel building in Canary Wharf, I’m always surprised that more people don’t know about this restaurant. It definitely boasts some of the best views of the city – especially when there’s a cracking sunset on display. They offer a vegan version of all of the menus they offer and they also have a great selection of wines! I recommend heading to the rooftop for a tipple before you settle down for dinner. Oh and if you’re thinking about proposing, you could do a lot worse than this!

Sushi Samba
High-end dining… literally. You can’t have a date-night list with Sushi Samba on it Take your relationship to new heights with a date at one of the best sushi bars in town! Situated on the 38th and 39th floors to the Heron Tower, this restaurant boasts 360 degrees views over the city through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Make sure you position yourself at the front of the lift on your way up, to enjoy incredible views as you ascend, and ensure you visit the orange tree on the balcony for a tipple. This is the ideal spot for looking out over the city from a height with a cocktail in one hand and a maki roll in the other. They offer a separate vegan menu with dishes such as sweet soy aubergine and mushroom tobanyaki, but, with every good location comes a big ol’ price tag too. So, save your pennies if this is on your ‘to visit’ list.

Nestled on the south bank overlooking the Thames, this restaurant / bar / brasserie is an ideal spot for a romantic date. They offer a vegan menu with really unique and interesting flavour and texture combinations on it and like the others, it’s a little bit more expensive than your regular venue but it’s nice for a more special occasion.

We Are Vegan Everything
If your idea of a perfect date is brunch followed by a swing in netted chairs, come right this way. I know lots of people are more into coffee dates now so I thought I’d throw this option your way. We Are Vegan Everything (or WAVE as it’s known by many people) is one of the most chilled out spots you’ll find and is perfect for people who want to tuck themselves away in a cosy corner and get lost in conversation. Of course, there are also lots of other great brunch venues including The Good Egg, Ruby’s in Soho, Black Cat in Hackney to name but a few. Café Van Gogh
This non-profit restaurant in Brixton is easily one of the cutest, cosiest spots you’ll possibly find in London. Their hearty food is just as good as their morals! They work in conjunction with three charities to run a programme of on-the-job training for people with additional challenges in life to provide them with the support and confidence to seek paid employment. They also provide paid employment opportunities to these delegates if the opportunity arises. They’re also zero waste and 100% vegan. For the most romantic experience, sit in the dimly upstairs balcony underneath the starry ceiling. I recommend visiting on a Sunday for one of the best vegan roasts in London and some of their delicious hot apple drink

The Muddy Puddle
Oh, you want cosy? Well Muddy Puddle will GIVE you cosy. This is just the most adorable spot for a little day time coffee date in the beautiful garden or in the little conservatory style room at the back.

The Fields Beneath
The ideal spot for a coffee date, Fields Beneath is such an adorable venue. It’s quite small so be prepared to sit nice and close to your date! If you decide to get food, you simply must try the savoury stuffed croissants. They are *chefs kiss*. 🍴 Cuisine: Cafe food

The ”Let’s Keep it Casual” Venues

The Colour Factory
If you want to play it cool on your first date or you’re just looking for a more relaxed evening, this is the perfect spot. There’s a bar and various food vendors offering vegan and non-vegan options so there’s something for everyone. Plus, that way you get to eat without having to commit to a spenny restaurant. They also host events including DJ nights if you’re into something a bit more lively. It’s also right next to the canal so if it’s going well, you can take a little stroll along after. You could even pop into Barge East’s fairy light lit garden after if you want to keep the drinks flowing. Also, slightly less romantic but also important – it’s right next to the train station.

Looking for easy-going venues where you can relax for a few hours and enjoy some decent food and drinks? Ta-da! Either of these venues would work for you. They both have a range of vendors to choose from as well as indoor and outdoor areas. Ideal for relaxed vibes or even a double date.

Just the dreamiest little venue and such a haven for vegans. Packed with little nooks and crannies for you to nestle into, playing host to lots of different evenings including comedy and music nights and boasting an impressive menu, this really is one of the ultimate date nights for vegans in London.

Don’t try to tell me that pizza isn’t the language of love. I won’t have it. If you’re looking for a super relaxed date with a fun atmosphere and some absolutely epic pizza, look no further. The “Night To Remember” Venues

Gauthier
Cheaper than a trip to Paris but still giving off those Parisian vibes, I recommend you head to this Soho spot for ultra romance. French food is one of the most difficult cuisines to veganise, so when Alexis Gauthier (who had already been vegan for five years) decided to turn his restaurant fully vegan last year, I was super impressed. I’d been once before to try the vegan tasting menu and thought it was pretty great but it feels so much more special now that it’s totally vegan. We dined on the lower floor which feels a little like a posh living room. The atmosphere isn’t the buzziest but it’s a great place to focus on the food while you wine and dine your love interest! I can’t wait to get back there and try it again now that it’s fully vegan.

Pollen Street Social
About as sophisticated as they come, Jason Atherton’s Michelin starred restaurant in Mayfair boasts one of the best vegan tasting menus I’ve ever eaten. This isn’t a veggie or vegan restaurant but the chefs certainly know how to cater to a plant-based customer. This is the best vegan tasting menu I’ve had in London to date. This is the perfect spot to pop on your finest attire and celebrate a special occasion whilst (elegantly) stuffing yourself full of fancy food. When a specific dish from a restaurant stays in your memory for years, you know it’s good. You’d expect nothing less from a Michelin starred restaurant and it’s well worth the hefty price tag. This is one of those “once in a lifetime” restaurants for those very special occasions.

Galvin La Chapelle
Oozing charm and elegance, Galvin La Chapelle is regularly voted ‘most romantic restaurant in London’. Set in an old school hall, the venue boats high ceilings and large arched windows. From the moment you set foot in the restaurant to the second you leave, the waiters will ensure you’re given an experience you’ll never forget. Serving traditional French cuisine, they offer a separate vegan tasting menu with a range of beautifully crafted dishes. This is a spot for a super special occasion! When I visited, the meal was £55pp or £120pp with a wine pairing.
