This is how I {sushi} roll 🍣
I’ve always said that the only thing I really miss eating is fish 🐟 especially in the form of sushi 🍣 In my pre-vegan days in Aus, I used to order it 3-4 times a week 🥢
I like veggie sushi but it’s not *quite* the same for me 🤷🏼♀️ However, there was one non-fish sushi roll I used to order regularly from a little Japanese food stall which I wanted to recreate: The chicken katsu sushi roll 😍
Katsu was invented in Tokyo and the word simply means, a breadcrumbed cut of meat 🥢 Nowadays, there are vegan versions made using veggies (🍆 aubergine & sweet potato are popular) or vegan meats like seitan.
I decided to make Uramaki (inside out rolls) for the first time, to try my hand at a different technique! It’s so much easier than I thought it would be so don’t be scared to give it a go 🥰
If you want to learn, do what I did and head to YouTube where there are lots of tutorials from professionals 👀
Here’s what’s on my plate:
🍣 Uramaki rolls with @this.uk“chicken” goujons, nori seaweed, sushi rice, creamy avocado, vegan mayo, sesame seeds, pickled ginger, sliced radish, soy sauce & wasabi
I really enjoyed the rolls but thought it was a little dry so I might add even more mayo next time OR go wild and add a katsu curry sauce on top 🤤
Have any of you ever made sushi before? What’s your fave combo?
