HOLD THE GODDAMN PHONE 📞 Vegan “tuna sashimi” has arrived at @islandpokeuk and as someone who used to be borderline obsessed with sashimi, I couldn’t wait to pop down and “sea” what the fuss was all about 🐟
Here’s what @emsharp24 & I ate & thought:
🌱The Vegan Ahi w/ plant-based tuna (made from watermelon), shoyu dressing, sushi rice, pineapple, chilli salsa, wakame, crispy shallots, spring onions & sesame seeds

✏️ So, first of all, is the watermelon similar to tuna? When you first put it in your mouth, yes, it does have that same slimy feel to it but when you bite into it, it has the crunch of watermelon. So, it’s not identical in texture but it’s still light, refreshing and nice in its own right. It doesn’t taste particularly similar to fish but it’s also doesn’t taste like watermelon. They’ve done a good job at removing that sweetness from the fruit. I actually really loved the taste – it’s marinaded well and is a little spicy. Overall, it is more of a novelty that it looks exactly the same a tuna but taste-wise, despite not being similar, it’s absolutely delicious and works really well. I really enjoyed the whole dish. Every ingredient was fresh, healthy and flavoursome. Wakame seaweed is my favourite and I really enjoyed the crispy onions too! The portion size was also deceptive – it’s very filling
