Rasa Sayang – Chinatown

Vegans, a-sambal! 🌱 {press meal}

I first visited @rasasayang_london with a non-vegan blogger friend of mine years ago to help her take photos 💬 At the time, they had ZERO vegan options and I told them how great it would be to see some on the menu. Fast forward a few years and they invited me back to try not one, not two, but 7 of the 15+ vegan dishes they now have 🙌🏼🌱

I’ve been pushing for clearer labelling in Chinatown restaurants so it makes me really happy to see how clear this menu is to navigate! 👀

Here’s what I ate:
🥘 Char Bee Hoon – wok fried vermicelli w/ mixed veg
💰£11.50
🤷🏼‍♀️Order again? Yes. I did feel they needed more flavour but I can’t resist a plate of noodles, there I said it

🥘Sambal tempeh with tempeh from @thetempehman
💰£4.95
🤷🏼‍♀️Order again? Yes, absolutely unreal textures and flavours
🏆Fave dish

🥘4 Fiery Kings – okra, petai, aubergine, lin beans & vegan sambal
💰£12.95
🤷🏼‍♀️Order again? Yes – 2nd fave – just can’t get on with the lin beans. I’d order without next time! Otherwise, really tasty

🥘Nasi Lemak – Malaysia’s national dish w/ coconut & pandan rice, peanuts, achar & sayur lodeh
💰£10.95
🤷🏼‍♀️Order again? No – I did like the dish but I preferred the others

🥘 Gado Gado
💰£6.95
🤷🏼‍♀️Order again? Yes, really liked the flavour! Anything peanut-heavy is a win for me

🥘Sayur Lodeh – Classic veg stew w/ curry cabbage, aubergine, tofu puffs, carrots, long beans & glass noodles
💰£10.95
🤷🏼‍♀️Order again? No, It just wasn’t my fave

🥘Achar – spicy & sour veg concoction
💰£4.95
🤷🏼‍♀️Order again? Yes, spicy but refreshing

🍨 Also had some homemade mochi with crushed peanuts for dessert which was beaut!

Very interesting, thanks. I run occasional vegan tours of London Chinatown so it’s very useful to know that Rasa Sayang has a decent vegan selection. Vegan nasi lemak might need a few more textures to mock the original crispy anchovies and hard-boiled egg, but I’m really looking forward to trying it.
