Tendril Kitchen – Soho

Raising a toast to the quality of this food 🍞 {ad – press sample}⁣

Meet Tendril Kitchen, currently popping up at well known pub Sun and 13 Cantons in Soho! This is a prestigious spot, with previous tenants including Asma Khan from Darjeeling Express.

The extremely talented (and absolutely lovely) Chef Rishim Sachdeva, who has previously worked at Chiltern Firehouse in the UK and Olive Bar & Kitchen in India, works his magic with seasonal British produce to create a pretty special menu at really reasonable prices👨‍🍳

Everything is vegan apart from one cheese focused dish. I’d personally love to see them go fully vegan one day – their menu is more than strong enough to thrive without that dish 🌱

Rishim surprised us by bringing out every dish on the menu to try but don’t worry, as always we took the leftovers home to ensure no food was wasted,

Here’s what we ate:

🌱 ⁣Canape with carrot “bacon”, smoked peas, breadcrumbs on iceberg lettuce
💰£ N/A – Free with meal
💭 This was delicious! Light but full of flavour

🌱 Avocado, preserved beetroot, fiery jalapeños, crackers
💰£4
💭The crackers were like nacho crisps and quite cheesy in flavour, the beetroot added a nice sweetness and the avocado was incredibly smooth with a lovely citrus flavour. The jalapeños added a little heat! Really loved all of the contrasting flavours and textures. A unique take on chips and guac!

🌱 Last “pluck” tomatoes, herb gremolata, seasonal fruit jam, currants (GF)
💰£4
💭These were fresh and juicy and the little details really made the dish unique but it wouldn’t be the first one I went back for

🌱 ⁣Red pepper spread “muhhamara”,kale, almonds
💰£3,50
💭This was heavenly. There was so much flavour packed into that little dip and the contrast of textures was amazing – creamy dip, chewy yet soft kale and a little crunch from the almonds. One of my fave dishes of the day!

🏆 Fave dish

🌱Chargrilled sourdough, pumpkin, pickled shallots
💰£4
💭Another cracking dish. The flavours in this were just beautiful. I spread my dip on my bread and now I’m not sure I can ever have toast any other way
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣Yes

🌱Zucchini fritter with sweet corn, turmeric and basil puree
💰£6
💭This was tasty but the flavours weren’t as bold as some of the other dishes. I would’ve preferred the flavours in the pesto to be a bit stronger personally. They had a nice texture – soft but held together well.
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣Yes, with changes

🌱 ⁣Crispy sweet potatoes, soy, sesame, spicy pickle
💰£6
💭These were so great! Sweet, sticky and delicious. The glaze on the outside was thick and had a slight crunch to it.
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣⁣Yes

🌱Roast cauliflower, leek, XO, cacao nibs (GF)
💰£6
💭The cauliflower was cooked perfectly – soft and charred on the outside. The puree was super creamy and a little sharp
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣Yes

🌱Grilled mushroom, chipotle glaze, dates, toast
💰£7
💭I am a huge mushroom lover and these are some of the best I’ve had. My non-vegan friend came with me and was shocked at how meaty they were. Rishim said he’s worked hard to perfect the flavours and textures and that was clear. There was a beautiful smokiness to them and the accompanying glaze dip was sweet and sharp, fruity with a bit of heat. Stunning dish!

🏆 Fave dish

🌱 ⁣Quinoa, bulgur wheat, tabouleh, purple potatoes, heritage carrots, herbs – Sadly, forgot to get a close up of this but it’s the white bowl on the left hand side of the photo!
💰£13
💭This was a well executed dish but the earthy flavours weren’t for me. I also felt it was lacking a little bit of flavour. It’s not something I would ever normally order on a menu
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣⁣No

🌱Ratatouille, artichoke, ras el hanout, piquillo pepper
💰£12
💭This had some lovely flavours and the dish felt really fresh and juicy. It’s a simple dish but was executed really well
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣Yes

🌱Massaman curry with acorn squash, coconut, pok choy, cucumber (GF)
💰£13
💭I’m a huge massaman lover so was quite excited to try this and whilst I liked the flavours, they weren’t strong enough for me and texture-wise, I really would’ve loved to see white potato in there instead of squash
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣No

🌱 ⁣Jersey royales, coriander, shaved radish (GF)
💰£4
💭Perfectly cooked, beautiful flavours. I’ll never say no to a potato.
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣⁣Yes

🌱Chargrilled (sweetheart) cabbage, shallots, soy (GF)
💰£4
💭Absolutely beautiful. I’m a big fan of cabbage anyway, I think it gets a tough time in the food world but when it’s cooked like this, I struggle to believe anyone wouldn’t enjoy it. The fried onion on top was a nice addition and added some crunch. The dish was sharp and very sweet at the same time which I loved. I didn’t find the sweetness overpowering.

🏆 Fave dish

🌱Poached black lentils, spiced herb dressing, sunflower seeds (GF) – Didn’t get a snap of this but it’s just at the back left in the blue bowl
💰£5.50
💭I really liked the creamy texture and the herb dressing but it wasn’t one of my faves out of the whole menu
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣No

No snap of this!
🌱Parfait
💰£5.50
💭Genius. So many contrasting flavours, textures and temperatures. The custard was really light and creamy and there was a nice mixture of sweet and salty throughout. It was like a posh muesli / flapjack. It doesn’t matter how full you feel at the end, you should get this!
🤷🏼‍♀️ Order again? ⁣⁣Yes
