222 Vegan Cuisine – West Kensington

I’ll rac-let-te you guess what I ordered from 222 Vegan Cuisine 🌱⁣

This spot in West Kensington has been on my ‘to visit’  list for aaaaages. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it so I thought it was time to finally head West and check it out! Here’s what Chris & I ate and thought:⁣

🌱Bean & tofu pancake with tomato & sour cream⁣
💰£6.50⁣
✏️The cream in this reminded me of a mix of soft cheese & yoghurt which I quite liked. I wouldn’t say that this dish was bland as it did have some flavour but I wanted the flavours to be punchier. For example, the tomato could have been sweeter. I liked the texture combinations though – The cress in particular gave it a nice crunch!⁣
❓Order Again?⁣ ⁣Yes, with changes⁣

🌱Cauliflower & Polenta Bake w/ a pistachio & olive tapenade⁣
💰£6.50⁣
✏️Despite not being much of an olive fan, I am (strangely) rather partial to an olive tapenade and I absolutely bloomin’ LOVE pistachios. I really enjoyed the little nutty pistachio crunch in this but again, I found myself wishing that the olive and pistachio flavours were more emphasised as they were a little too subtle for me. The polenta bites were quite nice but a tiny bit dry for me.
❓Order Again?⁣ ⁣Yes, with changes⁣

🌱Seitan stroganoff with cashew cream, mushrooms, seitan strips, caramalised onions & brown rice⁣
💰£12⁣
✏️I used to be a massive fan of stroganoff and I’m still a huge sucked for anything rich and creamy (always have been). Whilst this was super creamy and I absolutely loved that, I did find it lacking in flavour. The mushrooms did add some flavour and when you got a bite of one, it was better because they were juicy & delicious but it wasn’t quite enough to carry the whole dish. I thought that the seitan was well done – not too thick and had a nice flavour, which is rare to find with seitan!
❓Order Again?⁣ ⁣Yes, with changes⁣

🌱 Raclette with tofu cottage cheese on roasted potato, sautéed oyster mushrooms & spinach⁣
💰£12⁣
✏️I used to eat a lot of raclette back in the day and I would say that this was quite different to a regular raclette. Like I mentioned before, whilst I absolutely adore dishes involving potatoes, cream or both, this was more like a potato dauphinois. I didn’t mind that so much as dauphinois is another dish I love, it just wasn’t what I was expecting. Once again, I enjoyed the creamy texture but wanted more flavour. I did also enjoy the crumbly tofu and thought it worked well with the dish.
❓Order Again?⁣ ⁣Yes, with changes⁣

Side note: Quite a few people have messaged me to say that the lunch menu is much stronger than the dinner one so I’m definitely going to pop in and give that a try!
