Babuji – Kentish Town

Aloo, is it saag you’re looking for? {#ad}⁣

Family run Indian takeaway Gulshaan has relaunched as South Asian street food restaurant @babujiuk (named in honour of their father) and they’ve got some vegan options on the menu so @thebigjolleyvegan and I went to check them out 👀

The venue’s facelift is really cute – the decor is great. The decorate bike, in particular, took my fancy!

Here’s what we ate & what we thought:⁣

🌱Vada Pau – Spicy potato deep fried in gram flour batter, served on roti⁣
💰£5.50⁣
✏️The vegan option came w/ roti instead of a bun which meant it was quite dry and didn’t really work. Needed a bit more sauce and soft bun⁣
❓Order Again? No⁣
⁣⁣⁣
🌱Pau Bhaji – Slow cooked veggies in a thick sauce w/ subtle spices & tomatoes served w/ roti⁣
💰£5.50⁣
✏️Spicy, creamy tomato flavour, loved the texture, different to other Pau Bhaji I’ve had though⁣
❓Order Again? Yes⁣

🌱Aloo Tiki – Potato cutlets mixed w/ spices⁣
💰£3.95⁣
✏️Nice flavour and a nice level of spice but a little too dry and cakey⁣
❓Order Again? No⁣

🌱Onion Pakora – Onion fritters mixed w/ chickpea flour & spices⁣
💰£3.95⁣
✏️This had some nice flavours and textures but overall was too dry for my taste ⁣
❓Order Again? No⁣

🌱Chole Masala – Punjabi chickpea curry w/ spicy & tangy flavours⁣
💰£5.95⁣
✏️Mild but tasty combo of spices, comforting dish, would’ve liked a touch more heat. Liked the burst of ginger⁣
❓Order Again? Yes⁣

🌱Saag Aloo – Lightly spiced spinach w/ slow cooked new potatoes⁣
💰£6.50⁣
✏️I love Saag Aloo and this was done well. Nice flavours, again liked the addition of ginger. Well cooked veg!⁣
❓Order Again? Yes⁣

The team were brilliant enough to pay me for my work but all opinions are honest and mine
