Got my paws on the @clubcultured X @twisted_london“veggie disc” collab 😏 🐾 {complimentary}
I’ll get into the burger in a sec but first, in case you haven’t heard, the EU is cracking down on food labels. Veggie burgers will be called veggie discs, and sausages, tofu steaks & escalopes aren’t safe either. One of the people responsible for the legislation said that it was “common sense” and that “the meat lobby is definitely not involved”.
• Firstly, is this the best use of energy & time? I just feel like there might be slightly bigger issues for parliament to be worrying about
• Secondly, if we’re going down the ‘common sense’ route, surely the fact that non meat burgers are called “VEGGIE” or “VEGAN” burgers is enough of a clue that they are in fact veggie/vegan? .
• Thirdly, who are the people who are bothered / confused by these labels? Why are they so concerned? If labelling needs to change, will we be updating peanut butter & fish fingers too?
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what they’re called, I’ll still stuff my little face with them, as I’m sure many other people will. NOW, onto the good stuff: the one night only special from @twisted_london & @clubcultured. The ‘KFV with a T’ is packed with a grilled tempeh fillet, avocado mousse, cheese, baby gem lettuce, chilli jam, crispy onions & homemade mayo in a bun 🤤 🍔
It’s amazing to see Twisted supporting an independent vegan business! 🌱 You might remember me saying that the Twisted KFV is one of my fave veggie burgs / discs in London, and I’m delighted to report that the ‘KFV with a T’ is amazing too 🤤 It felt lighter than your average burger, it wasn’t greasy at all, there was a perfect amount of mayo, a nice sweetness from the chilli jam & pickles, the tempeh added a nice subtle flavour and a dreamy texture, the lettuce added a nice crunch and the bun was my idea of a perfect burger bun 👏🏼 Well done, guys! It’s a crime against veganism to not make this permanent… Pleeeeease? 🙏🏻
