Big fan of snacks that don’t “costa” fortune 💰
I’m gonna go ahead and pop the classic ham & cheese toastie straight at the top of my “things I never expected to see veganised” list 😱
But nothing surprises me in the vegan world anymore and the @costacoffee team have only gone and done it! 🧀
Here’s what I thought:
🌱Ham & cheese toastie made using @quorn_uk smoky “ham” and coconut based “cheese”
📍 @costacoffee
💰£3.05 (or in the £4.50 meal deal)
♻️Sleeve it originally comes in is non-recyclable plastic, they serve it to you in cardboard – It’s 2020, this needs to change. Packaging should be recyclable and there should be less of it for one sandwich
🌾Gluten free? No
💭I mean, it does what it says on the tin and it does it pretty well. The “ham” doesn’t pack the strongest flavours but it does give that realistic meaty texture. It was a little thin though, perhaps another slice or two would’ve enhanced the texture. The cheese is really good! It’s not super flavoursome, which is good in that it doesn’t taste like a bad vegan cheese but also for obvious reasons it would be better if it had more flavour, but it melts SO well! 👏🏼 There’s a good amount of it, it’s creamy, and it doesn’t stick to the roof of your mouth at all. In terms of being a cheap, on the go snack, it’s pretty good. At first I was concerned about the size and look, it’s not the most filling sandwich in the world but it does the job and kept my hunger at bay for a couple of hours. I would love for it to be toasted on two sides rather than just one but it wasn’t a massive deal. As far as being a good replica goes, the textures are very similar to a non vegan version, just needs some more flavour!
🤷🏼♀️Buy again? Yes
Have you tried it? What did you think? 💁🏼♀️
