Vegan Portuguese tapas (petiscos) in Peckham 🇵🇹 {press meal}
My fave part of this job is finding vegan options from a cuisine that’s traditionally pretty un-vegan 🌱
Portuguese food is normally quite meat / seafood heavy so I popped down to @uvalondon to see what they’d managed to put together 👀
Here’s what I ate:
🌱 Sausages in a sofrito based purée
💰N/A
🤷🏼♀️ Order again? Yes – they created this as a trial dish but I’d love to see it on the menu! Hearty & flavoursome
🏆 Fave dish
🥔 Batata rustica – fried new potatoes w/ a spicy chive & mustard mayo
💰£6
🤷🏼♀️ Order again? Yes. Potatoes & creamy sauce – sold
🌱 Abobara Grelhada – Grilled pumpkin w/ fried chickpeas in a sofrito & mojo verde sauce
💰£7
🤷🏼♀️ Order again? Yes. Really nice flavours
🥦 Brocoloa a lagareiro – grilled tenderstem broccoli w/ a herbed garlic & chilli oil and crushed almonds
💰£7
🤷🏼♀️ Order again? Maybe but thought it needed more flavour
🥒 Piri piri pepino – smashed cucumber salad w/ a piri piri glaze, topped w/ sunflower seeds
💰£6
🤷🏼♀️ Order again? Maybe. Not bad but I’d prefer something heartier / more exciting
🌱 Piexinhos da horta – seasoned asparagus w/ a homemade black pepper aioli
💰 £6
🤷🏼♀️Order again? Yes. Really enjoyed this dish – don’t normally love tempura but the batter was thin
🥧 Pastel de nata
💰£2.50
🤷🏼♀️Order again? Yes
💭 Summary: Some tasty dishes but it felt like a menu of sides. I suggested a few more hearty, protein-focused dishes e.g. vegan croquettes or bacalhau made using a fish sub. Their menu changes weekly but I’ve seen that their current menu, has some more creative options e.g. oyster mushroom calamari 👏🏼 the venue is beaut and the garden is a lovely place to dine. Staff were also fab!
