“I could never go vegan… I love cheese too much” 🙅🏼♀️🧀🚫
I’ve heard this phrase so often that I considered getting it printed on a t-shirt. It’s easily the one I hear more often than any other when discussing veganism, and like I’ve said many times before, I can absolutely understand how you feel because that was me three years ago (yeah, that’s right) 🙋🏼♀️ I honestly think I was a cheese addict. I just could not grasp how people could live without that creamy, crumbly, sharp goodness in their life 🤷🏼♀️ I thought that giving up meat was a big enough step, giving up cheese felt impossible or “too extreme”.
My advice
My best advice to you is not to compare vegan cheese with non-vegan cheese because the truth is, they aren’t exactly the same, but I found that once I went vegan, my tastebuds changed and I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I no longer miss the taste. My palette has completely adjusted to the taste of vegan cheeses 👅 Some are better than others and they’re improving every day but I genuinely enjoy vegan cheese now. I also don’t rely on it in the way I used to rely on non-vegan cheese and have learnt to make so many delicious meals which don’t require any form of cheese.
It took me between 3-6 months to stop craving cheese so stick with it! Some people prefer to give it up immediately, others prefer to slowly phase it out with little swaps and recipe tweaks. Do whatever works for you but I would say that if you’re eating dairy cheese and vegan cheese at the same time, you will notice the difference in taste. Giving dairy cheese up completely and swapping it for vegan cheese made it easier for me personally.
So, I wanted to make the transition as easy as possible for the cheese lovers. While there are so many I haven’t discovered or tried yet, I thought I’d share both my favourites and others which I know are out there on the market too.
