But bacon tho… 🥓 {ad}
If you’re vegan, I don’t doubt for one second that you’ve seen this sentence before 👀 Bacon seems to have become that food that people just can’t bear to part ways with 🤷🏼♀️
…and I kinda get it, because we’ve never quiiite been able to nail a vegan version of the traditional bacon roll 🌱 But you know what? @cocodimamauk& @this.uk have just come pretty damn close 👏🏼
I took my bacon-loving friend @emsharp24 with me to give some perspective as it’s been years since I ate it 🥓 Here’s what we thought:
🌱Vegan bacon roll w/ spinach (I added ketchup free of charge)
💰£2.95
✏️ Let’s start with the flavour. It’s not exactly the same as bacon but it has got that same smokiness and makes for a good substitute in that sense. Texture wise, the “bacon” is much chewier than real bacon and so not identical. The baguette is too hard for me. It’s really tough on the roof of your mouth and because it’s also quite thick, the “bacon” and especially the spinach, get a bit lost. I think there needs to be a bit more “bacon” in the roll. I suggested that softer, thinner bread would work better here. In that case, it might not need more fillings. With a few tweaks, this could be a pretty bloody good replacement for the classic bacon roll! Also, thought that £2.95 was a reasonable price
❓Order again? Yes, w/ changes
🌱Vegan lasagna
💰£5.25
✏️Um, this was an unexpected belter of a dish. It’s rich, sweet, creamy and comforting. It’s also surprisingly meaty considering it’s made from lentils. Beaut flavours, would definitely order again! Decent price too.
